T. Scott Bannister is Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of the Iowa Northern Railway Company based in Cedar Rapids. He previously was owner of Bannister and Associates Law Offices and a former partner at Hanson, Bjork and Russell, LLP in Des Moines. Bannister was also General Counsel of the Iowa Department of Transportation (TRB) and early in his career was Iowa counsel for Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad Company and the Chicago and North Western Transportation Company.
Active in the growth of the Midwestern short line and regional rail industry for more than 20 years, he helped organize and has provided legal counsel for numerous railroads including Iowa Northern, Heartland Rail Corporation (Des Moines and Iowa City), North Central Railroad Association (Iowa), Green Hills Rail Authority (Missouri), Fillmore Western Railway (Nebraska) and Progressive Rail, Inc. (Minnesota).
Active in his community, Bannister was President of the Board of Directors of Orchard Place, a leading central Iowa child welfare agency. Bannister also served as President/Director of Friends of Iowa Public Television Foundation, Director of Development and General Counsel for Great Ape Trust of Iowa, and a member of the Board of Directors of Des Moines Metro Opera and the Polk County Bar Association.
Mr. Bannister received a Juris Doctor Degree with Honors from Drake University Law School and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Iowa.
