Ethanol/Biofuel Services
Ethanol has become a huge industry in Iowa and Iowa Northern Railway Company is right in the middle of it. In June, 2006 IANR started hauling its first loaded ethanol tank cars out of the new Hawkeye Renewables plant in Fairbank, Iowa. In August, 2008 their plant in Butler County will be on IANR's line with the combined capacity of over 250 million gallons produced annually. With any ethanol production there are also co-products that need to be transported. Dried Distillers Grains make up the bulk of these products and are distributed as feed for dairy, beef, swine, and poultry markets all over the world. Along with the production facilities on line, Iowa Northern is also a partner in developing Manly Terminal to facilitate the transportation of ethanol for other producers, traders, marketers, and buyers. It will be the first of its kind, origin terminal and will act as the beginning of a virtual pipeline.
With access to over 100 million bushels of soybeans and sites available to build on, the Iowa Northern is ideally situated to have a soybean oil producing facility on its line. Soybean oil is the primary feedstock in the production of bio-diesel fuel.
