Transloading Services

Iowa Northern Railway Company has two transloading facilities in operation and two more under construction. Manly Terminal, located in Manly, Iowa, was developed for the primary purpose of supporting the distribution of ethanol and other bio-fuel related commodities. The terminal is a first-of-its-kind ethanol origin facility designed to build efficiencies into ethanol transportation and trading. The terminal provides producers with a transload and storage site to consolidate ethanol gallons at origin. Manly Terminal customers can take advantage of the multiple rail connections of Iowa Northern to access markets quickly and economically.

Additionally, Manly Terminal is a transload yard for commodities such as caustic soda, sulfuric acid, corn oil, and methanol along with animal feeds and various other commodities. The terminal has also developed into a distribution center for wind turbine components. Generators, hubs, blades, and tower sections are railed in from ports and manufacturing facilities all over North America for distribution to wind farms in the Midwest. Components are also trucked in from Midwestern manufacturing sites to be transloaded and railed out.

Currently under construction adjacent to Manly Terminal is Manly Logistics Park, which is being developed to create warehousing, transloading, and staging for many products pertaining to agriculture, renewable energy, renewable fuels and construction projects. Manly Logistics Park is also an ideal location for manufacturing due to the heavy rail infrastructure with access to the entire North American rail network.

Iowa Northern’s Manly Yard contains a 700 car capacity helping Iowa Northern better serve our customers and Class I partners.

Iowa Northern also serves transload customers at Bryant Yard in Waterloo. This facility has cross dock operations for direct truck-to-rail transload currently handling feed ingredients, dust control, industrial and food grade starches, and boxcar commodities.

At Butler Logistics Park, which is north of Shell Rock, Iowa in Butler County, there are over 18 acres available for development within the park, ideal for a warehousing and/or transloading site. West of Logistics Park Drive an additional 20-40 acres will be developed soon for industrial rail served facilities.
